Product Description

Kenyan coffee, you say? Absolutely! We can never get enough Kenyan coffee! Although our Chief Coffee Officer, Ryan, has always been a fan of this region, we've struggled to find standout lots in recent years. But in 2024, that changed with this remarkable lot that truly knocked our socks off.

Our Production team is thrilled with the thick, traditional Kenyan notes in this coffee, highlighted by hints of cardamom and citrus spice. Whether you're brewing a pour-over at home or pulling shots on your espresso machine, this coffee is a must-try!

This exceptional AB grade selection comes from the Igutha wet mill in Nyeri, specifically the Giathigu region in the Mukurweini District. The wet mill, referred to as a "Factory" in Kenya, is managed by the Rugi Farmer's Cooperative Society. This organization supports its associated wet mills by providing agronomical assistance, pre-financing during the harvest season, and marketing the coffees.

Igutha mill currently has around 600 members who deliver their coffee cherries from farms typically 1 hectare or smaller, situated at altitudes between 1700 and 1900 meters. After depulping, the coffee undergoes a fermentation process lasting up to 48 hours to break down the sticky mucilage surrounding the seeds. It is then dried on raised beds for 2-3 weeks.

This lot features the preferred cultivars SL-28, SL-34 bourbon selections, and Ruiri 11, which are known for their excellent cup quality, especially under favorable growing conditions.

Peak Freshness, Every Time

Every bag begins with a fresh roast, never warehouse stock. We roast coffee in small batches and ship it shortly after, sealing in the vibrant aroma and flavor so it reaches you at its peak. From roast to doorstep, we make sure your coffee’s journey is as short and as fresh as possible.
