We are excited to bring you a special coffee lot called "Philippines Heritage," which pays tribute to Mostra's ancestral roots and the legacy of the farmers who produce these outstanding coffees. This Single Origin coffee comes from the Sitio Belis mills in the Philippines, where we do most of our true "Direct Trade" work. You can learn more about our work on the "About Us" page and see photos from our first trip to the farms.

The Philippines Heritage coffee rotates seasonally, featuring a variety of coffees we select from the farmers we work with and those produced by Kalsada. Every year, many different coffees are available, and our simple answer is that we want them all! The Philippine Heritage blend includes wet, honey, and naturally processed coffees from the region, allowing us to showcase the excellent quality of these fantastic producers at the Sitio Belis mills.

Kalsada, our partner in the Philippines, shares some details about this particular lot. “On the sunnier and lower side of Sitio Belis is another small community of dedicated coffee growers – Sitio Naguey. Although it is only 800 meters from the first mill, Sitio Belis, the hike is very steep, and there is no access to transportation: everything must be hauled on foot. We decided to build a mill at this location after a series of consultations with the farmers. By bringing the mill closer to them, farmers spend less time hiking and carrying coffee cherries and can spend more time picking and sorting. This helps maintain coffee quality: with the coffee cherries having a shorter distance to travel to a mill, the coffees are processed more immediately.

In previous years, we exclusively produced natural coffee from Naguey. For this harvest, due to typhoon rain and winds, we washed coffees from Naguey to protect their quality. The coffees were dry fermented for 24 hours, followed by 24 hours of wet fermentation. Coffees were dried for 4-6 weeks and then stored in grainpro bags for another 4-6 weeks before being hulled and sorted.”
